New Information for Clinically Extremely Vulnerable People
The recent identification of the new, more transmissible variant of the virus has resulted in a change to the advice regarding attending the workplace. The new advice is that Clinically Extremely Vulnerable people should work from home if possible but if they are unable to do so they are advised not to attend the workplace.
The Chief Medical Officer will write to Clinically Extremely Vulnerable people to advise of this change. Anyone who cannot attend work due to this advice will be eligible for Statutory Sick Pay, and can use the Chief Medical Officer’s letter as evidence for their employer as was the case when shielding was introduced at the at the start of the pandemic. Pending receipt of the new letter, people can use their original letters as evidence. If you are unable to locate your original letter please ask our Receptionist to print a copy for you.
Please note that the Department of Health have added that this is advice only, and that “people are free to make their own judgements about whether or not they should attend work. https://www.health-ni.gov.uk/news/statement-changing-advice-clinically-extremely-vulnerable-people
